Dr. Febrian
“Annie”
Moten,
Psy.D.
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Moten is a post doctoral Clinical Psychologist. She understands therapy to be a collaboration between equals — with her walking alongside clients on their journey rather than serving as an authority figure dictating where to go and how to travel. Dr. Moten’s goal is to support clients in understanding their experiences without judgment or stigma so that they can create a life that is both large enough to acknowledge pain and be a life worth living.
Dr. Moten’s background as a biracial Pakistani-Indonesian woman raised by undocumented low-income parents has led her to understand that mental wellness means learning how to thrive within the confines of systemic oppression by weaving together radical self-care with the necessary tools to work towards your personal definition of success. As a progressive practicing Muslim psychologist, Dr. Moten provides treatment that emphasizes clients' inherent worth as human beings, which includes LGBTQ+ affirming, culturally humble approaches. She enjoys therapeutic work that incorporates encouraging clients to explore their spiritual values with other identities that they hold.
Dr. Moten builds trust through her straightforward nature, kindness, irreverence, and humor, which both instills hope and accurately reflects a world that can be unkind. Dr. Moten uses her extensive DBT training to guide therapy so that it becomes both a space to contain your emotions and build upon your sense of personal autonomy. In session, Dr. Moten draws upon not only her lived experience and background, but also things like music so that clients can express or process experiences and emotions that words cannot capture.
