Alka Chaudhary, LMHC
Alka Chaudhary is a Mental Health Counselor licensed in the states of New York & New Jersey as well as an adjunct professor at Adelphi University. Alka views therapy as a place where people come to summon the courage to open their minds and reorganize everything accumulated in it. She believes her role is to help people understand themselves, their past experiences, and step into who they truly are.
Alka believes that the roots of our struggles begin from environments that taught us how to see ourselves, others, and the world around us. Being South Asian American, as well as the child of immigrants, Alka is able to draw from her own experiences to better explore the various intersections of her patient's identities and how those affect their lives today.
As a therapist she uses art and writing as a part of a practice in which creativity is not just a hobby, it’s a coping skill you can hone to help you understand, express, and make meaning of painful emotions. She believes that forming authentic relationships with her clients helps them elicit their own intrinsic motivation so that they can make lasting changes. Alka uses an integrative approach that draws upon her background with evidence-based treatments such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through a person-centered lens.
